Cancelled due to Corona Virus

Unfortunately, due to the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the restrictions imposed by the Collegee of Charleston and the State of South Carolina, there will be no SE Lie Theory Workshop in May 2020. We are attempting to rescheduling the conference to another date. Once that information is available, we will post it here. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes you. We hope that you are somewhere safe and health and look forward to seeing you at some point later in the future.

The 12th meeting of this regional conference on Lie algebras and groups returns to Charleston, SC and will feature invited talks, contributed talks, and a day dedicated to the memory of Ben Cox (1962—2019).

A printable poster advertising the conference is available here. Please post it at your institution to help us advertise this event.

Schedule & Abstracts

A tentative schedule has been posted here. Once the schedule is finalized, you will be able to download a schedule and abstracts for the conference here.

The Charleston International Airport (CHS) is recommended for those who chose to fly to the conference. Taxis and the usual car services can drive you to the venue or your hotel from there. In addition, there is a public bus whose route includes the airport and drops you just a few blocks from campus. Look here for driving directions to the College of Charleston.

Local Information

The talks will all be in the School of Sciences and Mathematics Building (202 Calhoun Street, Charleston, SC) which is #11 on this detailed campus map. A parking garage, coffee, restaurants and shopping near to the conference venue can be found using this conference map. The College also provides a variety of other campus maps here. There is metered street parking in front of the conference venue, but we recommend that you park in the St. Philip Street Garage.

Registration, Funding and Contributed Talks

Please fill out this registration form if you plan to attend the conference, want to apply for travel funding for junior participants or if would like to give a contributed talk. (The deadline to apply for travel funding and for contributed talks is March 22, 2020.)

Lodging & Accomodations

Participants (including invited speakers) should make their own lodging arrangements for the workshop.

Please follow this link for a list of hotels maintained by the College of Charleston and check with sites such as for comparison.

The closest hotel to the conference site is the Francis Marion Hotel. However, like many of the hotels in downtown Charleston, the prices there can be quite high. There are also a few hotels downtown in walking distance of the conference venue with competitive rates, such as the Comfort Inn on Bee Street and the Hilton Garden Inn on Lockwood Drive.

If you will have a car, we recommend you look for hotels in Mount Pleasant just across the bridges from Downtown Charleston to secure better rates, such as the Hotel Indigo which is conveniently located and relatively affordable.

We urge you to reserve your accommodation early as Charleston is a popular destination this time of year and your choices will diminish quickly.

If you are willing/planning to share a room with another participant, please let us (the organizers) know: one of you needs to reserve the room, and the rate will be split at check-in. If you need help in identifying a roommate, we are happy to help.
